Visitor Visas
If you wish to come to the UK for a short visit (no more than 6 months within a 12-month period), then you may require a Visit Visa.
There are countries whose nationals are exempt from applying for visas to visit the UK for a short period of time (e.g. United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and EU Countries). However, in some cases, regardless of nationality, it is still mandatory.
The following would also normally require a visa to visit the UK:
- Those with criminal records
- Those with previous UK visa refusals
- Those who intend to remain in the UK for the full 6 month period
If you are required to apply for a visit visa, there are 4 categories to choose from:
- General Visitor (For tourism and/or business trips / Family Visits)
- Permitted Paid Engagements (e.g., to attend an Event / Competition)
- Marriage
- Short Term Study Visa (e.g., short English language course or a training course)
Applications must be made online, and the fee is £ 100 for a single-entry visit visa. It is also possible to apply for a long-term visit visa, for up to 2, 5 or 10 years, for those who make frequent visits to the UK over longer periods of time.
When applying for a visit visa, you must be able to demonstrate to the UK immigration authorities that your visit is genuine and that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your stay and that you can support yourself during your stay. In many cases, this can prove hugely problematic, particularly if you are not in full-time employment and/or study, or do not have a good enough reason to return to your normal country of residence.
MediVisas specialises in all types of visit visa applications and enjoyed a good level of success in this regard for people from all nationalities and walks of life.
